Home Too Soon

Unfortunately I flew home yesterday after a crash in St. Moritz Switzerland. The crash wasn't so bad but I got a bit tangled in the nets and ended up with a bone bruise and a small fracture on the tibial plateau of my right knee. All I can really do for it is wait for it to heal, try to keep my strength up, and do physio. Hopefully it will only take a few weeks to get better.

Zurich

We arrived in Zurich this morning after a long day of travelling. Aspen was a pretty crazy downhill. The weather for the first two training runs was good and then it started snowing and snowing and snowing. The race was cancelled on Friday and we had an epic powder day. On Saturday we ran the downhill race and they threw out the Super-G. There was a lot of soft snow on the course and my team mate Britt Janyk won the race! We were all so excited we could hardly contain ourselves! I wanted to cry I was so happy for her. Being a Whistler native she grew up on that snow and she owned it! By the time I left the start gate the weather had taken a turn for the worse. Half the Austrians pulled out of the race because they didn't like the conditions. I could barely make out the first gate and the fog persisted for the first 4 turns. After that the course was in pretty good shape but the visibility was poor and off the track there was a lot of built up snow. I made it down and skied all right and ended up in 26th position. It's good to get some World Cup points and I hope that the trend keeps going in this direction. The racer behind me made it down, the racer behind her almost crashed and the girl behind her did crash and dislocated her knee cap. It is really unfortunate that 2 girls got hurt and I hope that they both recover quickly. After the second crash and a lengthy hold, the race was cancelled. The race still counts but the rest of the field did not get to start.

Aspen, where the beer flows like wine

Well we arrived in Aspen last night. I was home for one night after the Super-G and left early in the morning to catch the flight to Denver. The Super-G in Louise went better than the Downhill did. Although I didn't do as well as I would have liked, it was a step in the right direction. I was more relaxed but I overskied the easy parts. It was a lot of fun and I wish I could ski it over again.

Aspen is georgeous. It snowed here a couple of days ago and it is beinning to look a lot like Christmas! The lights are up everywhere and it looks like a dream. We are off to the "Aspen Club" now to work out. I guess all the celebrities work out there so maybe we'll see someone famous! There is a training run tomorrow to get ready for and I'm excited!

Lake Louise

Well it has been a really tough week out at "The Lake." I came in with really high hopes and expectations and things didn't come out quite as planned. Since my concussion in October I have been struggling to build my confidence but I just didn't have it in me in the downhill today. Along with a little bad luck from the weather my performance today was not where I would have liked it to be. I am keeping my spirits up and I'm getting ready for the Super-G race tomorrow. Wish me luck! Monday morning I am off to Aspen for the next set of races.
